Abertis Chair Mexico was created in 2021 in collaboration with the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México and represents a strategic step toward strengthening transportation engineering in Mexico.

Through its Institute of Engineering, UNAM joined the International Network of Abertis Chairs, which promotes research and training in sustainable mobility. This agreement includes the creation of a chair and an award to recognize innovative studies in infrastructure, road safety, and transportation management.

The initiative aims to foster interdisciplinary solutions to major national challenges, such as improving freight transport efficiency and boosting industrial competitiveness. Additionally, it will support the development of new technologies and planning models for safer and more efficient mobility.

The Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México is a public research university and it is one of the largest universities in the world, with over 330 thousand students.

UNAM is present in 28 states of Mexico and in the USA, Canada and Spain, China and Costa Rica. It occupies a prominent place in the world ranking of universities, due to its extensive research and innovation.Its main campus, Ciudad Universitaria, is one of the biggest in the world and is a World Heritage Site since 2007. 

UNAM has had a leading role in the history and formation of Mexico. Their substantive tasks are teaching, research and the dissemination of culture and is the most important cultural project in Mexico. It is a space of freedoms. 

The Engineering Institute of the UNAM conducts basic and applied research to solve problems of national interest. It is the most productive research center in various areas of engineering in the country. It contributes to the development of the country and the well-being of society through engineering research.

Angélica Lozano

Director

Angélica Lozano is a Senior Research Fellow at the Engineering Institute of the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM), where she leads the Transportation and Logistics Engineering Research Group (GIITRAL). She teaches "Transportation Network Analysis and Modeling" and "Urban Freight Transport" in the Master's and Doctoral Programs in Engineering at UNAM.
