Abertis Chair Puerto Rico was created in 2012 in collaboration with the Universidad de Puerto Rico.

The Abertis Chair link university and enterprise engaging research and innovation activities in the field of Transport Infrastructure Management and Road Safety. On an annual basis announce the Abertis Award, aimed at graduate and doctoral students from all universities in the country.

Abertis chairs in all countries make up the International Network of Abertis Chairs, from where the Abertis International Award is awarded annually in its two categories of transport infrastructure management and road safety, distinguishing the best works among the winners from all countries.

The Abertis Chair is located at the Mayagüez campus of the University of Puerto Rico, which is locally and internationally renowned for its programmes in Engineering, Technology and Agricultural Sciences.

The University of Puerto Rico is the oldest and most comprehensive, stringent and superior educational institution in Puerto Rico. It is accredited by the main professional bodies in the United States, which facilitates the option of pursuing further studies in the US.

As a research institution the University carries out a series of projects and exchanges with more than 120 universities around the world, has alliances with global institutions and provides the students with learning, research and extra-curricula activities.

They strive to provide the necessary training for the students of today, giving them the tools they need to get the most out of their studies and develop as professionals and individuals.

Director

Professor of Transportation Engineering in the Department of Civil Engineering and Surveying at the University of Puerto Rico at Mayagüez (UPRM).

He holds a PhD in Civil Engineering with a specialization in Transportation Systems and Infrastructure from Purdue University, Indiana, USA; a Master of Science in Civil Engineering with a specialization in Transportation Engineering from UPRM; and a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from UPRM.
